RIGHTWEIGHT

Advanced innovative material solutions to meet lightweight needs in the automotive and aerospace industries

Partners:

Objective:

The overall objective of RIGHTWEIGHT is to increase the competitiveness of SMEs in the automotive and aerospace sectors by offering new solutions that meet environmental and affordability objectives. Cross-industry collaboration and dedicated support will help increase the ability to co-develop solutions that meet the needs of automotive and aircraft manufacturers. RIGHTWEIGHT has created a transnational ecosystem connecting 5 countries of automotive and aerospace relevance (RIS3), leveraging leader-follower synergies: France (aero), Germany and Belgium (auto), the Netherlands (both) and IT with IMAST (strong in both sectors) which will be expanded with 3 other North-West regions (Luxembourg, Ireland, United Kingdom).

RIGHTWEIGHT supports 50 manufacturing SMEs in the automotive and aerospace value chains to deliver

components that meet the needs of automobile and aircraft manufacturers. Over 20 new lightweight products are being incubated to reach TRL7 level, improving environmental performance and value for money through an open cross-sectoral process combining training activities and transnational thematic competitions in 5 cross-cutting areas within the lightweight materials sector:

  1. Supply and development of materials
  2. Characterization and modeling
  3. Intelligent design and functions
  4. Production and assembly
  5. Recycling

Partners offer dedicated training in complementary specialized field laboratories.

RIGHTWEIGHT is a pioneering initiative in stimulating cross-sectoral transfer between actors now operating in a single value chain with dedicated transnational sessions (also inviting peer-to-peer projects) and a new database of success stories.
