Incoming Mission on high-end applications: driving innovation in Bari

On December 10th, IMAST hosted an inspiring Incoming Mission in Bari, bringing together over 20 participants from Albania, Montenegro, Molise, and Puglia to experience firsthand the potential of Additive Manufacturing technologies in high-end applications.

The event provided a unique opportunity to engage directly with the cutting-edge Additive Manufacturing technologies developed by three leading companies in Bari:

  • Joint Lab Politecnico di Bari – Avio Aero GE, Apulia Repair Development Centre for Additive Repairs: here the participants had the chance to witness a revolutionary process in aeronautical component repairs. Thanks to cold spray technology, it’s possible to repair turbine components without thermally altering the material, reducing waste and improving efficiency. An innovative approach that enables rapid and non-invasive repairs, even for the most delicate components.
  • Supre Srl offered a unique insight into the future of industrial mechanics, demonstrating how the combination of metal 3D printing and state-of-the-art CNC machining is meeting production challenges. This technology reduces energy consumption, material waste, and optimizes production costs, while ensuring high-grade precision in manufacturing complex components.
  • SolidWorld GROUP impressed everyone with its ability to transform physical objects into digital twins in just minutes. 3D scanning technologies are opening new possibilities for component design and optimization, making production more agile and precise. Scanned components can then be seamlessly printed using 3D printing.

Beyond the technical demonstrations, the mission fostered a vibrant environment for exchange. Participants engaged in lively discussions, shared ideas, and explored tangible solutions for integrating Additive Manufacturing into diverse business operations. The dynamic interactions laid a foundation for future partnerships and innovations across borders.

This mission is part of the AMTECH project, under the Interreg IPA South Adriatic program, which aims to strengthen technological capabilities and drive cross-border innovation between Italy, Albania, and Montenegro. It represents a significant step forward in fostering collaboration and enhancing technological competitiveness in the region.

A genuine thank you to the host companies and the experts who shared their insights: Sabina Campanelli, Domenico Posa, Francesco Rizzi, Lucio Ferranti, Renzo Trisolini, and Marco Cuna, as well as all participants for their contributions.

Stay tuned for updates on the exciting outcomes and initiatives sparked by this event.
