The objective of the PRADE research project was to improve certain processes, defined as auxiliary to the main manufacturing processes, but necessary for the construction of complex structures intended for the transport sector. In particular, two processes have been refined: adhesive joints and repairing.
The development of polymer systems has been aimed at obtaining multifunctional systems with controlled electrical, thermal, and dielectric properties, as well as systems capable of self-repair. The optimization process considered all aspects that contribute to the “integrated” development of technological solutions, such as materials development, product/process modeling, and demonstration on a large scale.
Regarding adhesive joints, in the automotive sector, thermoplastic adhesive systems activated by electromagnetic fields and conductive thermosetting adhesives suitable for cataphoresis have been developed. In the naval sector, a flexible and high-temperature resistant adhesive joint has been developed.
Regarding repairs, a self-healing cataphoresis coating and scratch-resistant clear coats have been developed for the automotive sector. In the naval sector, a composite system has been developed for the repair of metal structures. For the aerospace sector, composite systems for engine repair have been created.
